No, we don't read your messages. Here's why.
A user recently told us something that stuck: "What worries me about Volt is that you could intercept my chats and read them."
Fair questions.
If you're trusting a third-party app with your WhatsApp, you deserve to know exactly what happens to your messages. So here it is, plain and specific.
Your messages stay at your computer
Volt is built on top of WhatsApp Web's architecture (which uses WhatsApp end-to-end encryption with your WhatsApp mobile app). After more than 10 years working in WhatsApp related products, this is the safest and most reliable solution we found to build the best WhatsApp client on earth.
Your messages travel directly between WhatsApp's servers and your computer. Volt runs locally on your device, reading and displaying those messages. No Volt server sits in the middle for this. No relay. No proxy.
Your messages are stored on your computer, the same way WhatsApp Web stores them in your browser. The difference of course is Volt gives you better tools to work with them and collaborate with your team!
This architecture is also why Volt feels fast. There's no extra hop. Messages aren't bouncing through our infrastructure before they reach you. It's a direct line between you and WhatsApp.
How AI features handle your data
Volt includes AI-powered features like audio transcription and message summaries. These require processing that can't happen entirely on your device. Here's how we handle it.
When you use an AI feature, Volt sends the minimum necessary content directly to the AI provider. Not to a Volt server first. Directly to the provider.
We only work with AI providers that enforce zero data retention (ZDR) policies, which mean that they adopt a policy where they have to discard the inputs and outputs of the petitions they handle. The provider processes your request, returns the result, and finally discards the input. Your data isn't stored, logged, or used to train models. It's processed and gone.
Besides, the information requests we handle with our AI providers are anonymous (tldr, they don't know which conversation is assigned to any user either).
No one on our team can see your chats
Everyone at Volt uses Volt. Every day, for all our WhatsApp communication. We have the same privacy expectations you do. We built this product for ourselves first, and we wouldn't use it if we didn't trust it with our own conversations.
The full policy
For the legal version of everything above, read our privacy policy. We collect the minimum information needed to manage your subscription. We don't store your messages on our servers. When a feature needs temporary data processing, we tell you and ask for consent.
