Why We Paused the Linear Integration

What We Set Out to Build

The problem was real: people who work in both Volt and Linear spend a lot of time moving between apps.

  1. A WhatsApp message arrives,
  2. it needs to become a Linear issue,
  3. the process is clunky: switch apps, fill in fields, lose the thread.

The integration would have let you:

  • Connect your Linear account via OAuth
  • Create an issue from any chat message in a few taps
  • View all chats tied to Linear tickets in a dedicated drawer
  • Filter by status, label, and assignee

The design was solid. Development started. Then we stopped.

Why We Paused It

We're shifting focus toward sales-oriented clients: teams using Volt for selling.

The Linear integration is a great feature for product teams and engineers. That's not the primary audience we're optimizing for right now. Prioritizing means saying no to things that are genuinely good, and this was one of them.

The Real Lesson

The harder thing to admit is this: we almost built it entirely for ourselves.

We use Linear. We work in WhatsApp all day. Of course the integration seemed useful. It would have saved us time. But when we looked beyond our own team, the demand signal wasn't strong enough to justify the cycle.

The rule we keep relearning: don't build software for yourself. Build it when multiple customers are asking, not just when the idea is obvious to the people inside the building.

Where It Stands

The feature is available in beta. If you're running a team on Linear and want to try it, reach out and we'll get you set up.

We'll revisit it properly when the demand is there.
